Harbor Privacy Policy

Harbor is a browser extension designed to help users stay focused by rewarding time spent away from user-selected distracting websites with earned leisure time.

Harbor is designed with a local-first approach to privacy. Most information used by Harbor is stored locally within the user's browser and is not transmitted to or collected by Harbor's developer.

Information Harbor Uses

To provide its focus features, Harbor may locally store and process:

This information is used only to provide Harbor's user-facing functionality.

Browsing Activity

Harbor requires access to websites because users may choose any website to add to their personal distraction block list.

Harbor may locally examine the hostname of the current website to determine whether it matches a website the user has chosen to block. This allows Harbor to apply its focus and leisure-time system.

Harbor does not collect page contents or transmit the user's general browsing history to the Harbor developer.

Local Storage

Harbor stores its settings, focus progress, statistics, block list, and related information using Chrome's local extension storage.

This information remains within the user's Chrome profile and is not transmitted to the Harbor developer.

Removing Harbor may cause locally stored Harbor data to be removed by the browser.

Media Buddy and YouTube

Harbor includes an optional Media Buddy feature that can interact with YouTube.

When the user chooses to use YouTube functionality within Media Buddy, Harbor may communicate directly with Google's YouTube Data API to retrieve information necessary to provide the feature, such as creator, channel, and video information.

If the user provides a YouTube API key, that key is stored locally by Harbor and is used when making requests to Google's YouTube Data API.

Use of Google's services is also subject to Google's applicable privacy policies and terms.

Idle and Browser Activity

Harbor may use information provided by Chrome about whether the user's computer is active, idle, or locked. This is used to prevent Harbor from incorrectly awarding focus time while the user is away from their computer.

Harbor also processes browser activity necessary to calculate focus time, leisure usage, and focus statistics.

This information is used to provide Harbor's focus functionality and is not transmitted to the Harbor developer.

Data Sharing and Sale

Harbor does not sell user data.

Harbor does not use user data for advertising.

Harbor does not provide user data to data brokers or use it for creditworthiness, lending, or other unrelated purposes.

Harbor does not transmit locally stored focus information, browsing history, block lists, or statistics to the Harbor developer.

Information may be sent directly to third-party services only when necessary for a user-requested feature, such as requests to Google's YouTube Data API when using YouTube functionality within Media Buddy.

Remote Code

Harbor does not download or execute remotely hosted extension code. Executable code required by Harbor is packaged with the extension.

Network requests made to external APIs retrieve data necessary for user-facing features and are not used to download executable extension code.

Data Security

Harbor minimizes external transmission of user information by keeping its primary focus data and preferences within Chrome's local extension storage.

Users should keep any API credentials they choose to provide to Harbor private and should not share them with others.

Children's Privacy

Harbor is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children. Harbor does not operate an account system or transmit locally stored Harbor usage information to the developer.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

This privacy policy may be updated if Harbor's functionality or data practices change. When changes are made, the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy will be updated.
